Discrimination
The denial of justice and fair treatment by individuals and institutions in many areas, including employment, education, housing, banking, and political rights. Discrimination is an action that can follow prejudiced thinking. Authorities in many countries that have signed international treaties committing them to protect human rights continue to implement and introduce legislation that singles out and discriminates against individuals based on their sexual orientation or gender identity and expression. But across the globe, many women and girls still face discrimination based on sex and gender. Gender inequality underpins many problems that disproportionately affect women and girls, such as domestic and sexual violence, lower pay, lack of access to education, and inadequate healthcare.
