Heteronormative / Heterosexism

Heteronormative: The idea that being heterosexual (straight) is normal and not being heterosexual is abnormal. This social norm (also referred to as heteronormativity) puts extreme pressure on people and culture to be straight. If people stray from that expectation, they are ignored, questioned, or worse, punished.

Hetero-sexism: The presumption that everyone is, and should be, heterosexual.

“It is taken for granted that one is a straight person by default. That sex is only done in the “traditional” and reproductive way. Because that’s where this thinking comes from, it makes sense to some extent that some people get confused and associate sexuality with sex since they are two completely different terms.”
